for a comparison. The National Lottery website has a lottery scam information page. Aero Post Courier Company does not appear to exist and the address used for the company (Building 247, Esher Crescent, Heathrow Airport, London, TW6 2EH) does not appear to exist either. However, Building 249, Esher Crescent is the business address of a genuine UK courier company, Expressair. The name Robert A V Benard is associated with other lottery scams: Idaho Lottery International (see below) and Freelotto Group International.

^ Xanga Web Publishers & British Lottery / Xanga Cash Lottery
Airport Hale Rd, Halebarns, Altrincham, Cheshire, WA15 8XW, UK (early Nov 2005 version)
British Lottery Headquarters, Customer Service, 28 Tanfield Road, Croydon, London (on Claim Form)
(UK International Office), 17 Peckinson High Street, SE4 5DF, London, United Kingdom

This scam appeared in early November 2005 - read the full text of the 'winning notification' in all its HTML glory here.  There is also a 'Winner's Claim Form' with an html drop-down form for the winner's details (see it here.) Although the winning notification is headed 'Xanga Web Publishers & British Lottery', the email is in the name of Linda Moore as Director International Promotions Unit, UK Leeds Promotions Lottery at the same address. There is also a 'Leeds Lotto International' detailed below. A later version (January 2006) has even more 'official graphics'.

Courier: 24-7 Courier Delivery Service (fake website)

The courier service used to deliver the cheque is
purportedly 24-7 Courier Delivery Service, which does exist at www.24-7courierservices.co.uk - read the request for payment here. It has a link to the 'Xanga Web 24-7 link page for winners only' which actually links to www.xanga.com/www_24_7courierservices_co_uk - the genuine 24-7 homepage has been copied, appropriate changes made such as adding William Omo's name and then the page has been transplanted onto the webhosting-site www.xanga.com, using '_' where the '.' are in the genuine name. All the links on the dummy site link back to the genuine 24-7 site. Users of Xanga.com sites have a guestbook which has been used to good effect on the dummy site, displaying a couple of messages from 'winners'. Unfortunately, the illusion is ruined when you notice that the comments have been posted by user 'www_24_7courierservices_co_uk' - the scammers themselves... !
The site also displays a 'winner's cheque despatch list' to convince potential victims that their cheque is ready and waiting... The address of 24-7 per the request for payment is Link House, Link Place, Brighton, Sussex, BN1 7DX which isn't 24-7's genuine address - but it is the address of BBA Courier Systems, another genuine courier company. BBA are aware that their company details have been used by scammers.

Later versions use Bluedart Express Couriers Service Ltd as the courier, with a Head Office address of Link House, 1C Church Street, Whitchurch, Hants, RG28 7AD, England.

Other Information:

In an attempt to add authenticity, the 'winning notification' has links to both the lottery.merseyworld.com and national-lottery.co.uk sites and has some 'official' graphics. The address with postcode WA15 8XW is very popular with lottery scammers. The batch number of 074/05/ZY369 appears over 1,000 times on Google Groups and the serial number 5368/02 appears over 1,300 times... The ticket number is 5647560054 which (with an extra '5' on the end) features in many lottery scams. The winning sequence of lottery numbers 06-09-13-15-40-43-02 is another set that appears to get drawn more then average. The ref number is UK/9420X/68. Later versions (January 2006) have a new set of numbers: batch WD18/0065/04RN, ref UKNL/255457004/04, ticket 034-22478556, serial 129. The notification has some images of purported 'LAST WINNERS ON BRITISH NATIONAL LOTTERY ONLINE GAME' which are reproduced on the left. However, these images have simply been 'borrowed' from various sites as follows (probably found by entering 'lottery winner' in an Image Search):
(1) www.tribuneindia.com (2) www.michigan.gov (3) news.bbc.co.uk (4) www.ifip.or.at. Click on the images on the left to see their original locations...(use 'back' button to return here). Later versions have 'past winner' images taken from the genuine UK National Lottery 'Winner's Gallery'.
The address on the Claim Form of 28 Tanfield Road is very popular with lottery scammers.

This scam appeared in mid-November 2005 and is very similar to the Xanga lottery detailed above - even having the same graphics and images of previous winners. There's also an Italian version in circulation, again with the same graphics - see the request for fees here. Later versions have a picture of 'Don Mary' as a winner (shown left). However, in reality she is Sarah Cockling, a winner of the genuine UK National Lottery...

Other Information:

The address contains 'Yatch Basin Marina', which appears to be a mis-spelling of 'Yacht Basin Marina', of which there are many. The rest of the address is a hybrid of the UK cities of Newcastle Upon Tyne and London - these cities are nearly 300 miles apart, but appear to have merged for the purposes of this lottery...The ticket number ( 694 75600545 721 ), serial number ( 886/04 ) and lucky numbers ( 01-6-2-13-35-17 ) are different from those in the Xanga lottery and all have links that inexplicably lead to the Yahoo email log-in screen. As usual, these numbers are common: ticket number (40+), serial number (40+) and lucky numbers (10+). The other references are: batch: 14/211/0374, ref: BTL/311OXI/02 and file RPC/9080115322/44.Again, it is suggested that fraudulent emails should be reported - this time apparently to the lottery's own Customer Care/Complaints Dept at support@britishonline-games.net. However, following the link will also take you to the Yahoo email log-in screen - probably because www.britishonline-games.net is inaccessible.

Associated names:

Mr Mark Finley (Agent)

Michael Moore (Online Coordinator)

Other Information:

The ticket number and serial number are the same as in the British Online Game above and also have links that lead to the Yahoo log-in screen. The lucky numbers are 06-07-32-37-47-07, with '07' somehow managing to be drawn twice... .

Other Information:

The ticket number is 20000; with a serial number of 027240879. Some versions refer to ref NL/9420X2/68 and batch 074/05/ZY369. If you respond to the winning notification, you will be sent a 'Claims Application Form' as shown on the left. The next stage will be the issue of a 'Letter of Clearance' (also shown left) which was '...duly issued by the Royal court of justice. It is a legal instrument that you will need to present to your tax authority... '. This document also bears the UK Royal Coat of Arms, as shown above, and is headed 'Royal Court of Justice, Strand, London, WC2A 2LL'. This is the address of the Royal Courts of Justice in the UK, although it is unclear why the Courts would be 'clearing' lottery wins as the High Court presides over the most serious civil trials in the country and criminal cases are handled by the Old Bailey. The accompanying email requests that the relevant fees are sent to Gabriel Imadojemun: Postal and Insurance charges: £595.00, Handling charges: £ 150.00, Total £745.00. The document is signed in the names of the Honorable Justice Phillip Earl and Arian (possibly 'Adrian' minus the 'd'?) Haley (Registrar). One would expect someone as prestigious as Phillip Earl to have some sort of presence on the internet, but sadly he's not mentioned...

This scam has been around for quite some time and at least two versions resurfaced in December 2005 - offering not only
a cash prize of £150,000 but also a brand new Honda FR-V (the car and cheque are shown on the left). Read one of the ''winning notifications', which features authentic 'Honda' graphics, here. A version in April 2006 offered the new car and £1,000,000. An earlier version (June 2005) is documented here. Other Information:

The address of 28 Tanfield Road, purportedly the offices of Honda Company UK, is exactly the same address used in the Xanga scam (above) where it's used as the address of the National Lottery HQ... The car image is taken from buyacar.co.uk, although it may well be a standard promotional shot. The cheque is drawn on a 'Lloyds Bank' account, but Lloyds merged with TSB in 1995 and became LloydsTSB, so the cheque used in the scam is at least 10 years old - that's probably why it looks a little faded! The scam has the usual sprinkling of winning numbers and references: serial 652-662, batch AT-040SB06-03, ticket 2752246896, file ref IPL/4249859609/WP1, security file number W-91237-H°67/B4, all of which have been used many times including in a coca cola lottery scam. The Verification Form (left) requests the winners details and has drop-down menus as in the Xanga scam (above). The form also states: 'PS: ATTACH A COPY OF YOUR DRIVING LISCENCE (compulsory)' (!) and is signed in the name of Rechard Olson. The instructions to contact the Delivery Officer (left) and advise the 'winner' to contact Wallace Christopher at Swift Courier & Cargo Services - a company with a name remarkably similar to the courier in the UK Lottery Sweepstakes Promotions scam (above). Although the address of Swift is in London, the address has a Newcastle postal code - NU1 2NB - thereby maintaining the Newcastle/London confusion seen in The British Online Game 2005 scam (above). Wallace Christopher sends the fee options (left), which again, are similar to those in the UK Lottery Sweepstakes Promotions scam (above). The fee option notification from Swift includes the following text: 'We know how packages get handled in shipping... We wrap very, very well. Any picture, framed or unframed, that we wrap and ship by the couriers we use, is guaranteed to arrive in good condition... some sizes, when wrapped, are within size limitations defined by the Canadian Post Office'. The references to picture wrapping and the Canadian Post Office may seem rather odd and have no connection with a UK lottery - this is because the text has been lifted verbatim from www.lanegallery.com - a Canadian photographic studio! Later versions have 'Delievery [sic] Fast Courier Service Ltd' as the courier, using the genuine name and address of Elite Worldwide Courier Services - read what they have to say about the scam here.

The Award Certificate almost identical to that issued by the Royal World National Lottery (see above). The address of RDS Couriers is a peculiar Netherlands/UK hybrid: Voorburgstraat 250 1059 VD United Kingdom (the 'United Kingdom' is replaced with 'Amsterdam Netherlands' in later versions). This address is also used for World Class Courier and Cargo Ltd.
